Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role follows successful completion of PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under supervision from expert stylists, you'll learn industry-leading grooming techniques, deliver top-tier salon services, and ensure pet safety while engaging pet parents. This entry-level position offers hands-on training in a fast-paced retail pet salon.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and reminder calls.
- Upsell services and merchandise to boost salon sales and meet targets.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; handle pet emergencies.
- Collaborate across departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart Academy training. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, pet-handling skills, flexibility for varied shifts, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs. Proficiency in computers and composure under pressure required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work under pressure (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
