Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role immerses you in PetSmart's Grooming Academy, where you'll learn from expert stylists. Under supervision, deliver top-tier salon services like bathing, brushing, nail trims, and full grooms. Uphold pet safety, salon cleanliness, and exceptional pet parent experiences while contributing to store goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services under supervision per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe, proficient grooming skills exceeding company benchmarks.
- Engage pet parents with personalized wellness recommendations and service consultations.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-ins/outs, reminder calls, and rebooking.
- Drive sales through merchandise promotion and salon growth initiatives.
- Maintain impeccable salon hygiene and respond swiftly to pet health issues.
- Support store-wide duties and embody PetSmart's values.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is a plus (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Thrive in fast-paced environments with flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays. Excel in communication, organization, pet handling, and computer use. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and keen vision for safety.

- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; handle sick/injured pets
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist other departments and follow company policies
