Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in Riverside, California, you'll train under experienced Professional Stylists at PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques, delivering exceptional salon services, and ensuring pet safety while building customer relationships. Advance to Pet Stylist upon successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, provide full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, reminder calls, and client records.
- Recommend wellness solutions, merchandise, and services to boost sales and meet targets.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; perform daily maintenance.
- Ensure pet safety, respond to health issues, and assist other store departments.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible availability required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Capacity to lift 50+ lbs and handle physical demands (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; assist other departments as needed
