Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision of expert stylists, learning best-in-class techniques for baths, brushes, nail trims, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, salon hygiene, and driving salon sales in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe, proficient grooming skills while recommending wellness solutions to pet parents.
- Provide outstanding pet parent experiences via greetings, consultations, reservations, check-ins, and rebookings.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness, perform daily maintenance, and ensure humane pet conditions.
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, promote sales, and assist other store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred (technical exam may apply), but no prior certification is required—complete our Salon Academy for success. You'll need physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a pet-hair-filled environment. Strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays) are essential. Computer proficiency supports client records and sales.
