Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing our Grooming Academy, you'll provide top-tier salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and upsell services/merchandise.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Drive salon sales targets and assist other store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate pet handling passion, customer service prowess, organizational skills, and composure under pressure. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing for shifts, and working in a pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety daily
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies
