Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in San Antonio, Texas, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while delivering positive experiences for pets and their parents. Uphold our vision, mission, values, and safety standards while contributing to store cleanliness and sales.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, maintain records, and promote sales to hit targets. Ensure salon sanitation, pet safety, and immediate response to injuries. Assist other departments as needed and participate in our culture of recognition.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Engaging pet parents with recommendations and reservations.
- Executing grooming services safely and efficiently.
- Maintaining a clean, humane grooming environment.
- Driving salon productivity through upselling.
Experience & Skills
PetSmart prioritizes trainable talent. Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete Salon Academy training and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and composure under pressure. Physical ability to stand, lift 50+ lbs, work in wet/noisy conditions, and flexible scheduling for evenings/weekends/holidays required. Computer proficiency essential.
