Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our San Antonio, Texas location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role, obtained after completing PetSmart Grooming Academy, focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Uphold our vision, mission, values, and strategy while contributing to store cleanliness and sales.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct reminder calls, and handle check-in/out procedures. Recommend wellness solutions, promote salon sales and merchandise, maintain impeccable salon hygiene, and respond to pet health issues. Assist other departments and follow all policies.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds (team lift 100+), stoop, kneel, and work in a wet, pet hair-filled environment with moderate to high noise levels.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek flexible schedules for evenings, weekends, holidays; strong organization, communication, composure under pressure, and pet safety focus required.
