Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision from expert stylists, mastering safe techniques for baths, brushes, nail trims, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, exceptional customer service, store cleanliness, and driving salon success in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and ensure positive experiences.
- Maintain salon hygiene, perform daily cleaning, and respond to pet health issues by coordinating vet transport if needed.
- Drive sales through merchandise recommendations and rebooking services to hit salon targets.
- Assist across departments, follow policies, and participate in team culture initiatives.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy training to qualify. You need computer proficiency, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, strong communication, and the physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a pet-filled environment. Organizational skills and composure under pressure are essential.
