Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our San Jose, CA location, you'll receive hands-on training from experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Ideal for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a rewarding career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, maintain client records, and drive salon sales. Uphold cleanliness and humane conditions, respond to pet health issues, and assist other departments as needed. Follow all company policies for a safe, productive salon.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply); must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Proficiency in computer applications, strong communication, organizational skills, and composure under pressure required. Physical ability to stand, lift 50+ lbs, work in wet/noisy environments, and flexible scheduling for evenings/weekends/holidays essential.

- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; promote sales targets
