Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in San Juan Capistrano, California, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on developing safe grooming skills while delivering exceptional salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety and outstanding pet parent experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records. Recommend wellness solutions, promote sales to hit targets, and uphold salon cleanliness. Identify and address pet health issues promptly, assist other departments, and follow all policies.
Daily Operations
- Engage pet parents in-person, phone, and at register
- Perform maintenance and end-of-day cleaning
- Drive salon productivity and metrics
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Proficiency in computers, ability to work under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), strong organization, communication, and physical stamina (lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping). Passion for pets and customer service essential.
