Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll engage with pet parents and pets to deliver best-in-class salon services while upholding company values, store cleanliness, and pet safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations and recommend wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Handle pet parent experiences via in-person, phone, and register interactions; manage reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and client records.
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to achieve targets while maintaining salon cleanliness and humane conditions.
- Identify sick/injured pets, transport to vet if needed, assist other departments, and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Requires computer proficiency, composure under pressure, schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, strong communication, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a wet, pet hair-filled environment with moderate to high noise.
