Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role involves engaging pet parents, delivering best-in-class salon services under supervision, and upholding pet safety standards while learning industry-leading grooming techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon cleanliness, promote sales to hit targets, and assist with pet health issues by coordinating vet transport if needed. Flexibility to support other store departments.
Daily Operations
- Handle client records, reminder calls, and rebooking.
- Ensure humane conditions and immediate action for sick/injured pets.
- Follow all company policies for safety and operations.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification required. Proficiency in computer applications, strong communication, organizational skills, and composure under pressure essential. Must handle physical demands: standing, lifting up to 50 lbs (team lift 100+ lbs), stooping, reaching, with depth perception. Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, holidays.
