Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll deliver best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and provide exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and maintain detailed client records. Promote salon sales, recommend wellness solutions, and uphold cleanliness standards. Assist with sick/injured pets, work across departments, and follow all company policies.
Daily Operations
- Engage customers in-person, phone, and at register
- Execute end-of-day cleaning per maintenance checklist
- Drive sales through merchandise and service recommendations
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; technical exam may apply. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key traits include composure under pressure, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a wet, noisy environment with pet hair. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
