Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll engage with pet parents and their pets to deliver best-in-class salon services while upholding company values, store cleanliness, and pet safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations and recommend wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Handle pet parent experiences in-person, phone, and at register; greet, answer questions, manage reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking.
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to achieve targets; maintain salon cleanliness and take action on sick/injured pets.
- Assist other departments, follow policies, and participate in company culture.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred with possible technical exam. Requires PetSmart Salon Academy completion, computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, attention to safety, and strong communication. Physical demands include standing, lifting 50+ lbs, working in wet/noisy environments with pet hair.
