Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care while supervised.
- Maintain salon cleanliness and humane conditions per maintenance checklists.
- Engage pet parents with consultations, reservations, check-ins, and sales recommendations.
- Monitor pet health, taking immediate action for sick/injured animals.
- Drive salon sales through merchandise and service promotions.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required – complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and physical capability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and handle physical demands (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow all company policies
