Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Springfield, Illinois, you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage pet parents, deliver best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level role offers a clear path to becoming a skilled Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, reminder calls, and maintain client records.
- Recommend wellness solutions, promote salon sales, and upsell merchandise to achieve targets.
- Ensure salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; handle sick/injured pets and assist other departments as needed.
- Follow all company policies, prioritizing pet safety and positive customer experiences.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays), and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment.
