Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Located in Springfield, Ohio, this position offers a dynamic path to a rewarding career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records.
- Recommend wellness solutions, promote services and merchandise to drive salon sales.
- Uphold salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; perform daily maintenance.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
PetSmart prioritizes passion for pets over extensive experience. Prior grooming knowledge is preferred (technical exam may apply), but completion of our Salon Academy is required. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical capability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
