Role Overview
Our Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under expert supervision to master bath, brush, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, exceptional customer service, salon maintenance, and driving salon success while upholding our vision of Anything for Pets.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe, proficient grooming skills exceeding company benchmarks.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and boost salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Assist across departments, follow policies, and foster a culture of belonging.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred (technical exam may apply). You need PetSmart Salon Academy completion, computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible availability (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs. Strong communication is essential for pet parent interactions.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; handle sick/injured pets
- Promote salon sales and participate in store culture and policies
