Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart's Grooming Academy, you'll work under expert supervision to master safe, high-quality grooming services. This position emphasizes pet parent engagement, salon operations, and upholding our vision of exceptional pet care in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care while supervised.
- Consult with pet parents on services, recommend wellness solutions, and drive salon sales.
- Handle appointments, check-ins/outs, client records, and promotional calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and adhere to pet safety standards.
- Respond to pet health issues and support store-wide operations as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy training to qualify. You need strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and flexibility for evenings/weekends. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, and handling pets safely. Proficiency with computers is essential.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist with sick/injured pets and collaborate across store departments
