Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart's Grooming Academy, you'll work under expert supervision to master safe, high-quality grooming services. This position emphasizes pet parent engagement, salon operations, and upholding PetSmart's vision for exceptional pet care in a dynamic Staten Island store.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care while supervised.
- Ensure pet safety, recommend wellness solutions, and drive salon sales through consultations and upselling.
- Handle check-ins/outs, reservations, reminder calls, and maintain accurate client records.
- Uphold salon cleanliness per maintenance checklists and respond to pet health issues promptly.
- Collaborate across departments and participate in store culture initiatives.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy for success. You need strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential, along with computer proficiency.
