Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Sterling, Illinois, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Ideal for animal lovers eager to launch a career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, maintain client records, and promote sales to meet targets. Uphold cleanliness standards, monitor pet health, and assist across store departments while following all company policies.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Performing supervised grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Consulting with pet parents on needs and recommending solutions
- Handling check-in/out procedures and salon communications
- Ensuring salon sanitation and immediate response to pet welfare issues
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Proficiency in computers, strong communication, organizational skills, and composure under pressure required. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, holidays essential. Physically demanding: lift 50+ lbs, stand extensively, work in wet/noisy conditions with pet hair.
