Role Overview

The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) receives hands-on guidance from experienced Professional Styling teams, mastering industry-leading grooming techniques through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role emphasizes pet safety, customer engagement, and salon excellence while contributing to store cleanliness and sales goals in Sudbury, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records. Promote wellness solutions, merchandise, and services to drive salon sales. Ensure highest cleanliness and humane conditions, responding immediately to pet health issues. Assist other departments as needed and follow all company policies.

Experience & Skills

Prior grooming experience preferred with potential technical exam. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification. Key skills include computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), strong organization, attention to detail/safety, and excellent communication. Physical demands: lift 50+ lbs, stand/walk extensively, climb, stoop, with depth perception required.
