Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences while contributing to store cleanliness and sales goals.
Essential Physical Demands
This role requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs frequently (team lift over 100 lbs occasionally), stooping, kneeling, and strong depth perception. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, recommend wellness solutions, maintain salon hygiene, promote sales, and respond to pet health issues. Assist other departments as needed and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with computer proficiency, pressure-handling ability, organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication. Passion for pets and customer service is key.

Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane pet conditions
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, including vet transport
- Assist other departments and follow company policies
