Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Obtained after completing academy training, it's perfect for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon cleanliness, promote sales to hit targets, and assist with sick/injured pets. Flexibility to support other departments ensures store-wide success.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply); must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek strong communicators with organizational skills, computer proficiency, and composure under pressure. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping in a pet hair-filled, moderately noisy environment. Flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, holidays required.
Essential Physical Demands
Stand, walk, climb ladders, lift heavy loads, with exposure to wet areas and mechanical parts. Depth perception and team lifting for 100+ lbs essential.

- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales and merchandise
- Assist in other store departments as needed
- Identify and address sick/injured pets promptly
