Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing our Grooming Academy, you'll deliver top-tier salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and build lasting relationships with pet parents. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a rewarding career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care while developing safe technical skills.
- Engage pet parents with personalized recommendations, handle appointments, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions, performing daily maintenance and end-of-day checklists.
- Drive salon sales by promoting services and merchandise to achieve targets.
- Respond swiftly to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required – you'll ace our technical exam and Salon Academy. Bring strong communication, organization, and composure under pressure. Be ready for physical demands like lifting 50+ lbs, standing for shifts, and working in a lively pet environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols

- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
