Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage with pet parents and pets to deliver best-in-class salon services while upholding our vision, mission, values, and pet safety standards. This entry-level role offers a clear path to professional grooming expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Maintain salon cleanliness per checklists, recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments and client records, promote sales to hit targets, ensure pet safety, and assist other departments as needed. Participate in our culture of belonging while following all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, organizational abilities, communication, computer proficiency, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical capability to lift 50+ pounds in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team lift over 100 pounds (experience)
- Proficiency in computer applications (experience)
- Capacity to react under pressure and maintain composure (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience including check-in/out, reservations, and consultations
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions with daily checklists
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, transporting to vet as needed
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies
