Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Vallejo, CA location, you'll receive hands-on training from industry-leading Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Advance your career in pet care with structured development.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, recommend wellness solutions, and upsell services/merchandise. Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness, monitor pet health, and contribute to sales goals. Flex to other store duties as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply); must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Thrive in fast-paced environments with strong organization, communication, and composure under pressure. Physically capable of standing, lifting 50+ lbs, and working in wet, noisy, pet-filled settings. Flexible availability required.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Capacity to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety standards
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments as needed
