Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll engage with pet parents and pets to deliver best-in-class salon services while upholding our vision, mission, values, and pet safety standards. This entry-level position in Valley Stream, NY, is perfect for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon cleanliness per checklists, promote sales to hit targets, and assist across departments. Ensure humane conditions and immediate action for sick/injured pets.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling under pressure, strong communication, organizational detail, computer proficiency, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a wet, noisy environment with pet hair. Flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
