Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from industry-leading groomers through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under supervision, you'll master bathing, grooming, and salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional customer experiences. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and upsell services/merchandise.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-ins/outs, reminder calls, and record-keeping.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Drive sales targets and assist other store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek flexible candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs. Computer proficiency and availability for evenings/weekends/holidays required.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane pet conditions
- Promote salon sales and merchandise
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, assist other departments as needed
