Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under expert supervision to master bathing, brushing, nail trims, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence while contributing to store operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services per PetSmart standards, including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions, performing daily maintenance and end-of-day deep cleans.
- Handle check-ins/outs, client records, reminder calls, and immediate action for sick/injured pets.
- Assist other departments and uphold company policies for a seamless pet parent experience.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment with moderate noise and wet conditions.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
