Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, parent satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and reminder calls.
- Recommend wellness solutions and promote salon sales to meet targets.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions daily.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required – complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate pet handling skills, customer service prowess, organizational abilities, and composure under pressure. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing for shifts, and working in a pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety protocols
- Drive salon sales through merchandise and service promotion
- Assist with sick/injured pets and cross-department support
