Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from PetSmart's expert styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in professional pet grooming while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe technical skills exceeding company benchmarks.
- Enhance pet parent experiences via consultations, reservations, check-ins/outs, and personalized recommendations.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; handle sick/injured pets promptly.
- Drive sales through merchandise/service promotions and assist store-wide as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling including evenings/weekends required. Computer proficiency essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, pet safety, and respond to sick/injured pets
- Promote salon sales, assist other departments, and uphold company policies
