Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing our Grooming Academy, you'll deliver top-tier salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and build lasting pet parent relationships. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Consult with pet parents on needs and recommend wellness solutions.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Drive sales through service promotions and merchandise recommendations.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled setting. Flexible scheduling required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
