Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences while upholding company values.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop and demonstrate safe technical skills exceeding minimum expectations.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and maintain client records.
- Recommend wellness solutions, promote sales, and drive salon metrics.
- Ensure salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, attention to safety, and excellent communication. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and working in a pet hair-filled, wet environment with moderate to high noise.
