Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Willmar, Minnesota location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while delivering positive experiences for pets and their parents. Obtained after completing PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll build safe technical skills under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Engage pet parents to recommend solutions, manage appointments, maintain client records, and drive salon sales. Uphold cleanliness and safety standards, respond to pet health issues, and assist across store departments as needed. Follow all company policies for exceptional service.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred with a possible technical exam. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, organization, communication, and physical stamina to lift 50+ pounds in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment with moderate noise and wet conditions. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
Responsibilities

- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
