Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll deliver top-tier salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and build lasting pet parent relationships. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a rewarding grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Consult with pet parents on pet needs, recommend wellness products, and drive salon sales.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-ins/outs, client records, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues promptly.
- Collaborate across departments and uphold PetSmart's policies and values.
Experience & Skills
No prior experience required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Preferred: grooming background (technical exam may apply). You need computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible availability (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs. Strong communication and pet-handling passion are essential.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Engage pet parents to recommend health and wellness solutions and upsell services
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety throughout operations
- Promote salon sales targets and assist in other store departments as needed
