Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our expert Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Advance your career in pet grooming while contributing to store cleanliness and sales goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting or exceeding expectations.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues immediately.
- Support store operations, follow policies, and participate in team culture.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and composure under pressure. Flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays required. Physically demanding: lift 50+ lbs, stand/walk extensively, work in wet/noisy environments with pet hair.

- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and handle pets in wet/noisy environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Assist in sales growth, store operations, and other departments as needed
