Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences while upholding company values.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per standards.
- Build safe technical skills and recommend wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-in/out, client records, and sales promotion.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Assist other departments and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, and strong communication. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and working in a pet hair-filled environment.

- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, pet safety, and respond to sick/injured pets
- Promote salon sales and assist other store departments as needed
