Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from industry-leading professionals through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under supervision, you'll learn best-in-class grooming techniques while delivering exceptional salon services, ensuring pet safety, and enhancing pet parent satisfaction in our Mississauga, Ontario location.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Consult with pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and drive salon sales.
- Handle check-ins, check-outs, reservations, and client communications.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions for all pets.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required – complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, computer proficiency, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Engage pet parents to recommend health and wellness solutions and upsell services
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety throughout operations
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet health emergencies as needed
