Role Overview
As a Pet Trainer at our Fort Gratiot store, you'll engage pet parents and their pets, delivering positive reinforcement training per PetSmart's proven curriculum. Actively promote classes, ensure safety, and drive sales while fostering exceptional experiences. This role demands flexibility, pet passion, and customer focus in a dynamic retail environment with live animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead training classes, manage pet parent interactions via phone, in-person, or online, and resolve concerns promptly.
- Sell training packages and educate on curriculum benefits to boost enrollment.
- Maintain records, schedule classes, and keep training areas clean and safe.
- Recognize team contributions, handle pet emergencies (including vet transport), and cross-train associates.
- Recommend merchandise, assist other departments, and uphold company policies.
Physical Demands
Stand/walk extensively, lift up to 50lbs (team lift 100lbs+), handle pets in moderate-noise, pet-hair-filled settings with occasional wet/mechanical exposures. Depth perception required.
Experience & Skills
Required Qualifications
- 1-2 years customer-focused retail experience.
- PetSmart Training Instructor accreditation.
- Computer proficiency, strong communication, organization, and composure under pressure.
- Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, holidays.
