Role Overview
PetSmart's full-time Retail Sales Associate (Pet Associate) delivers outstanding pet parent experiences, maintains store standards, and provides direct care for in-store pets. This entry-level role in Salem, Massachusetts, offers flexibility, hands-on pet interaction, and a chance to make a daily impact in a fun, pet-filled retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive pet parent satisfaction through greetings, question-answering, online order prep, and seamless checkouts.
- Handle pet healthcare: feed, water, clean habitats for birds, reptiles, small animals, fish, and crickets; administer vet-directed meds.
- Keep store spotless, stock shelves, face products, manage price changes, and promote events like adoptions and Treats enrollment.
- Recommend products/services/live pets, ensure safety, and respond to sick/injured pets by transporting to vets as needed.
- Assist across departments, follow policies, and contribute to a culture of recognition.
Experience & Skills
No prior experience required—pet passion is key! Successful candidates have strong communication, schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays), composure under pressure, and physical stamina to lift 50 lbs (team lift 100+ lbs), climb ladders, and work in pet-heavy environments. Depth perception and animal handling comfort essential.
