Role Overview
PetSmart's full-time Retail Sales Associate (Pet Associate) in Sterling, Virginia, delivers exceptional pet parent experiences, maintains store standards, and provides direct care for in-store pets. This entry-level role offers flexibility across sales floor, pet care, and services, in a dynamic retail setting with live animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive pet parent satisfaction through greetings, question-answering, online order fulfillment, and seamless checkouts.
- Manage pet healthcare: feed, water, clean habitats for birds, reptiles, small animals, fish, and crickets; administer vet-directed medications.
- Uphold store cleanliness, execute price changes, stock merchandise per floor plans, and recover shelves.
- Sell products, services, and live pets; promote events like adoptions and Treats enrollment.
- Ensure safety for associates, pets, and customers; respond immediately to sick/injured pets, including vet transport.
Experience & Skills
No prior experience required—pet passion is key! Successful candidates have strong communication, schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays), composure under pressure, and physical stamina to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and handle animals in a moderate-noise, pet-hair-filled environment. Depth perception and team-lifting for 100+ lbs needed.
