Role Overview
PetSmart's full-time Retail Sales Associate (Pet Associate) delivers outstanding pet parent experiences, upholds store standards, and provides direct care for in-store pets. Based in Wilmington, NC, this entry-level role involves customer engagement, merchandising, pet health, and safety across a dynamic retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive pet parent satisfaction through in-person, phone, register, and online interactions including order pickups.
- Maintain pet healthcare: feed, water, clean habitats for birds, reptiles, small animals, fish, and crickets; administer vet-directed meds.
- Execute store operations: cleanliness, price changes, product staging, facing, filling, and recovery to sales floor standards.
- Sell merchandise, services, and live pets; promote events like adoptions and Treats enrollment.
- Ensure safety for associates, pets, and customers; respond to sick/injured pets and assist store-wide as needed.
Experience & Skills
No prior experience required—pet passion is key! Successful candidates have strong communication, schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays), composure under pressure, and physical stamina (lifting 50+ lbs, standing, climbing, animal handling in moderate noise/wet environments). Depth perception and team lifting for heavier items essential.
