Role Overview
Our Part-Time Retail Sales Associates (Pet Associates) are the heart of the store, delivering exceptional pet parent experiences, maintaining cleanliness, and providing direct care for in-store pets. Based in Merced, California, this entry-level role offers flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays in a dynamic pet retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive pet parent satisfaction through greetings, question-answering, online order prep, and seamless checkouts.
- Handle pet healthcare: feed, water, clean habitats for birds, reptiles, small animals, fish, and crickets; administer vet-directed meds.
- Execute merchandising tasks like stocking, facing products, price changes, and sales floor recovery.
- Promote events, recommend products/services/live pets, and ensure a safe store for associates, pets, and customers.
- Respond to sick/injured pets, transport to vet if needed, and assist across store areas including services.
Experience & Skills
No prior experience required – just a love for pets! Must have strong communication, flexibility in scheduling, composure under pressure, and physical stamina to lift 50 lbs (team lift 100+ lbs), climb ladders, and work in pet-filled environments with moderate noise and occasional wet/hairy conditions. Depth perception and animal handling comfort essential.
