Role Overview
As a Part-Time Retail Sales Associate (Pet Associate) in Silver Spring, Maryland, you'll engage with pet parents and their pets, provide exceptional service, maintain store standards, and care for live animals. This entry-level role offers flexibility, hands-on pet interaction, and a chance to make a meaningful impact daily—whether helping select a first fish or celebrating a pet's birthday.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver outstanding pet parent experiences in person, online, and at checkout. Greet customers, answer questions, prepare online orders, and promote events like adoption weekends. Handle pet care duties: feed, water, clean habitats for birds, reptiles, small animals, fish, and crickets; administer vet-directed medications; identify and transport sick pets. Maintain cleanliness, stock shelves, face products, execute price changes, and ensure a safe environment for associates, pets, and customers. Assist across store areas including services as needed.
Experience & Skills
No prior experience required—pet passion is key! Strong communication skills, schedule flexibility (evenings, weekends, holidays), and composure under pressure are essential. Physically demanding: stand/walk extensively, lift 50 lbs frequently (team lift 100+ lbs), climb ladders, handle animals in a moderate-noise, pet-hair-filled environment with occasional wet areas or mechanical parts. Depth perception required; reasonable accommodations available.
