Role Overview
The Retail Store Manager (Store Leader) provides comprehensive leadership over store safety, pet parent experiences, operations, finances, and HR functions. You'll drive company culture, achieve key results, champion exceptional service, and execute daily business while upholding PetSmart's vision, mission, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- People Leadership: Recruit, hire, coach, and develop associates; create schedules, facilitate reviews, and foster an open-door culture using Voice of Associate feedback.
- Store Experience: Ensure pet safety and health; deliver outstanding pet parent service in-store, online, and via phone; conduct Core and Services Walks; maintain compliance and safety standards.
- Business Management: Analyze performance, execute corporate strategies for profitability; manage inventory, review cameras for risk assessment, and lead events with community partners.
Experience & Skills
Ideal candidates bring 3+ years of retail management, strong leadership in high-volume environments, and passion for pets. Key skills include team motivation, financial acumen, process improvement, and crisis management. Experience with pet retail or services is a plus.

- Oversee all store operations including safety, customer experience, and financial performance
- Lead recruitment, hiring, coaching, and performance reviews for associates
- Ensure exceptional pet parent service and resolve escalated concerns
- Manage inventory, scheduling, and compliance with policies
- Conduct store walks, camera reviews, and safety audits
- Drive business goals through strategic execution and team empowerment
