Role Overview
The Retail Store Manager provides leadership oversight for store safety, pet parent experience, operations, financial results, and HR functions. Drive company culture, achieve targets, champion exceptional service, and execute daily business while upholding PetSmart's vision, mission, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead people functions: recruiting, hiring, coaching, scheduling, reviews, and terminations
- Build open-door culture, respond to associate feedback, and foster engagement
- Deliver outstanding pet parent experiences in-store, online, and via phone
- Ensure safety for associates, pets, and customers; conduct walks and camera reviews
- Manage inventory, compliance, events, and community partnerships
- Monitor financial objectives and operational efficiency

- Knowledge of pet care standards and safety protocols (experience)
Responsibilities
- Oversee all store operations including safety, customer experience, and financial performance
- Lead recruitment, hiring, coaching, performance reviews, and terminations
- Build high-engagement team culture through recognition, feedback, and development
- Ensure exceptional pet parent service and resolve escalated concerns
- Conduct monthly store walks, inventory management, and compliance checks
- Manage store opening/closing, events, and partnerships with adoption groups
- Monitor in-store cameras, address safety issues, and handle pet health emergencies
