Role Overview
The Retail Store Manager (Store Leader) provides comprehensive oversight of store safety, pet parent experiences, operations, financial results, and HR functions. You'll champion PetSmart's culture, achieve key targets, deliver outstanding service, and execute daily business efficiently while upholding our vision, mission, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- People Leadership: Recruit, hire, coach, and develop associates; create schedules; facilitate reviews, training, and succession planning; foster open communication and high engagement.
- Store Experience: Ensure safe, healthy environments for pets, associates, and customers; manage pet parent interactions; conduct compliance walks; oversee inventory and events.
- Business Management: Execute strategies for profitability; analyze performance; communicate objectives; review security footage for coaching.
Experience & Skills
Ideal candidates bring 3+ years of retail management, strong leadership, customer service expertise, financial acumen, and pet industry knowledge. Key skills include team building, operational efficiency, conflict resolution, and adaptability to flexible schedules.

- Oversee all store operations including safety, customer experience, and financial performance
- Lead recruiting, hiring, coaching, and performance management for store team
- Drive exceptional pet parent service and resolve escalated concerns
- Ensure compliance with policies, conduct monthly walks, and maintain store standards
- Manage inventory, scheduling, and business objectives to meet profitability goals
- Foster associate engagement through recognition, training, and open communication
- Collaborate on in-store events and community partnerships
- Monitor store cameras and address safety risks promptly
- Analyze performance data and implement process improvements
- Handle pet health issues and coordinate vet transport as needed
