Role Overview
The Retail Store Manager (Store Leader) provides comprehensive leadership over store safety, pet parent experiences, operations, financial results, and HR functions. You'll champion PetSmart's culture, achieve key targets, and deliver exceptional service while upholding our vision, mission, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- People Leadership: Recruit, hire, coach, and develop associates; create schedules; facilitate reviews, training, and succession planning; build engagement through recognition and open communication.
- Store Experience: Ensure safe, healthy environments for pets and people; lead pet parent interactions; conduct compliance walks; manage inventory and events; review cameras for safety coaching.
- Business Management: Execute strategies for profitability; analyze performance data; communicate objectives; optimize processes for efficiency.
Experience & Skills
Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in retail management, strong leadership in high-volume environments, pet industry knowledge, financial acumen, and a passion for customer service. Proficiency in team motivation, conflict resolution, and operational tools is essential. Flexible scheduling and a commitment to safety are key.

- Lead recruitment, hiring, coaching, and performance management for store team
- Drive exceptional pet parent service and resolve escalated concerns
- Ensure compliance with policies, conduct monthly store walks, and monitor via cameras
- Manage inventory, scheduling, and business objectives to meet profitability goals
- Foster associate engagement through recognition, training, and open-door culture
- Collaborate on in-store events and community partnerships
- Maintain safe environment for associates, pets, and customers
