Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll lead development of our native mobile app, bridging Android/iOS platforms while building robust BFF services. Based in Phoenix, AZ, this full-time role requires 4 days in-office weekly, offering one flex remote day. Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field plus 5 years experience required, including 3 years in native Android and cross-platform expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements, estimate efforts, and plan feature development
  • Collaborate with QA for test plans and Android/iOS teams for consistent solutions
  • Perform peer code reviews and mentor junior engineers
  • Develop native Android apps with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Firebase; deploy via Play Store
  • Build BFF layer using Node.js/TypeScript, deploy with GitHub Actions on GCP
  • Query relational databases with SQL for app functionality

Experience & Skills

Require 3+ years in native Android (Kotlin, Jetpack, MVVM), REST/GraphQL APIs, cross-platform sync, SQL, HTML5/JS front-end, and hybrid apps. Proficiency in Git, Jenkins, Bitrise essential. Architectural knowledge of MVP/MVC/MVVM mandatory.

  • Experience with MVP/MVC/MVVM architectures and REST/GraphQL APIs (experience)
  • Backend for Frontend (BFF) development with Node.js/TypeScript on GCP (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy features for PetSmart native mobile app
  • Analyze business requirements and create development estimates/plans
  • Collaborate with QA and cross-platform Android/iOS engineers
  • Conduct peer code reviews and mentor junior engineers
  • Build and deploy Android apps to Play Store using Bitrise/Git/Jenkins
  • Develop BFF APIs/services with Node.js/TypeScript on GCP
  • Write SQL queries for data manipulation and debugging
  • Develop front-end components using HTML, Bootstrap, JavaScript
